That Cat…

Are you

The fabled “tiger burning bright

In the forests of the night?”

You hint at ‘soul’

Through matted fur; your stripes.

I reach to stroke,

You growl;

Yet I would swear

It ended with a purr.

Almost imperceptible;

But there.

I could be wrong;

You may be contemplating me

For lunch.

How does one read

The body language of a cat?

You tease.

You hint at being intimate,

Then turn and walk away,

Purring,

Working at your paws

As if I were not there.

Well fed and aging beautifully,

Your sweet, soft belly

Inviting me to touch.

Ah yes,

A handsome cat you are.

You hide your yearning well.

After all

No self-respecting cat would deign to tell!

You leave that role

For puppy dogs

Who love,

And love again,

Forgiving all.

    Ah, you know cats so well! I have three…. Enchanting little emnigma’s they are 🙂

  2. I did know them well — my Mickey and Abigail had two litters – cats everywhere, for awhile 🙂 So I was a ‘cat lady’ — however, I am now a ‘dog lady’ — and she always forgives me!
